My experience has been that hot sauces typically lose a lot of their punch after 9-12 months on the shelf.
My favorite is Crystal, from Louisiana, but living in New York it can be hard to find. I used to "stock up" whenever I was in New Orleans, but learned my lesson the hard way!

I agree on the shelf life issue... That said at the rate we use it its not a problem!
